Cyprus Agrotourism
The
Agrotourism programme in Cyprus.
In Cyprus there are 380 rural villages. The need for agrotourism in Cyprus, was born quite late.
In 1996 an Agrotourism Company was established by the Cyprus Tourism
Organization (CTO) for the better co-ordination of agrotourism
properties. Today, there are about 58 lodgings in Cyprus agrotourism.
The
basis of the program was the revitalisation of the countryside and
reversal of urban trend. This was to be achieved by creating a tourism
infrastructure of high caliber and
encouraging new entrepreneurial activities in rural area of Cyprus; also
providing the inhabitants of the countryside a chance to get involved
with the program, by protecting and enhancing built heritage, culture
and tradition.

The
general idea of agrotourism is to experience a different
ecological way of holidays in nature, tasting
local flavours,
delicacies and wine, learning about the tradition of a different culture
and the history of the villages, witnessing a different
prospect of
Christmas, easter
and
other local celebrations, participating in
traditional village events
such as weddings
and local festivals
or following an untouched nature
trail to the heart of Cyprus' wildlife.
The options provided to
you by agro-visiting are endless.
A visitor in an agrotourism lodgin in cyprus can really experience an unforgetable holiday,
enjoying the hospitality
and friendliness of the villagers and getting involved with the original
(just as our granfathers knew it) Cypriot life.

Cyprus lies at the crossroads of three
continents: Europe, Asia and Africa, in the north eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The population is around 700000.
